The Jesse H. Jones School of Business at Texas Southern University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position in the area of Management with priority specialization in Human Resources (HR) and/or Organizational Behavior (OB) at the Assistant Professor level. Applications are being accepted Fall 2017 and will continue until the position is filled.

The Area provides a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree in Management. Currently, there are four (4) tenured/tenure-track faculty teaching courses and conducting research in a variety of areas within the Management discipline. The school offers a diverse student population, substantial student-faculty interaction, and technology enhanced learning in an AACSB accredited teaching/research environment. The ideal candidate will have significant HR research potential and candidates with professional HR experience are highly preferred. A terminal degree in Management from an AACSB postsecondary institution is required.

The Assistant Professor position is responsible for carrying out the teaching, research, and service mission of the area. The ideal candidate will have a productive research portfolio, and be qualified to teach at the undergraduate and master’s level in a variety of teaching environments (online, face-to-face, etc). The ideal candidate will have an earned Ph.D. or other doctoral or degree in Management with specialized focus in HR/OB, possess excellent oral and written communication skills, and show evidence of outstanding potential for research, teaching and service.

Participation in teaching, advising, and service commitment activities of the school is required. The faculty member may participate in the governance of the school and be eligible to serve as a member on appropriate committees responsible for academic policymaking and/or other decisions. May participate in a variety of non-class activities such as directing an extracurricular activity, providing academic and career advising, and representing the school on institutional committees.

Essential Duties Summary

Teaches at undergraduate and graduate level in areas allocated by the Department Chair of Business Administration and reviewed from time to time by the Department Chair of Business Administration. Carries out research and produce publications, or other research outputs in line with personal objectives agreed in the Faculty review process. Contributes to the development, planning and implementation of a high quality curriculum. Participates in departmental and faculty seminars aimed at sharing research outcomes and building interdisciplinary collaboration within and outside the department. Contributes to departmental, faculty, or JHJ-wide working groups or committees as requested. Carries out any other duties commensurate with the purpose of the Business Administration department.



Hiring Range Commensurate with experience.

Completed (or close to completion of) a doctoral degree in Management (or related field) with specialized emphasis in HR or OB from an AACSB-accredited college or university and qualify for a tenure-track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor in the School of Business.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills. Must have excellent interpersonal skills. Must have the ability to work with a diverse student population. Should be open to teaching in a variety of learning environments (FTF, online, etc). Must have the ability to use personal computers and Microsoft Office software.

Work Experience

Beginning Assistant Professor candidates should have outstanding research potential and more advanced candidates should have excellent publication records in relevant leading journals. Should also possess excellent oral and written communication skills. Requires a working knowledge of various computer software i.e., Word Processing, Excel and PowerPoint. Professional HR experience is preferred.

Leadership/Supervisory Responsibilities

No supervisory responsibility.

Work Complexity/Budget Authority

Work consists of fairly standard teaching and research capabilities and tasks. There is no responsibility for budget, revenues, and/or expenditures.

Independent Judgment/Decision Making/Problem Solving Skills

Develops objectives and general policies and procedures for a specific program of functional area of responsibility within general scope of established operational goals and plans. Day-to-day work decisions do not require direction or review by immediate supervisor. End results are reviewed by supervisor.

Personal/Organizational Contacts

Some contact with others, including students, general public, visitors and University personnel. Purpose of contacts is to provide explanation or interpretation of information. May handled confidential information and some complex matters.

Customer Service Relationships

Requires advanced interpersonal and communication skills to establish and maintain internal and external customer relationships.

Working/Environmental Conditions

Work is normally performed in a typical interior work environment which does not subject the employee to any hazardous or unpleasant elements. Position requires light physical activity (i.e. most office jobs).
