Job Description Summary / TWC Summary

Under general supervision performs routine patrols of campus for the purpose of parking enforcement rules, regulations and law. Provides parking/security services as directed by the Shift Sergeant. Monitors surveillance cameras and stands “fixed post” position to control access in specific points of entry onto the campus.

Essential Duties Summary

Patrols assigned area, detects and reports suspicious or unauthorized persons, directs, or re-routes traffic around disruptions, issues warnings and tickets to traffic and parking violators, and communicates towed vehicle information. Attends shift “roll call”, provides daily briefing sessions regarding criminal activity, special assignments, and events. Prepares, reviews, and distributes various reports on incidents and other parking or security related issues. Provides general service, courtesy escorts, information and assistance to faculty, staff, students, and visitors on campus. Assists the Telecommunications section by receiving incoming calls for assistance and dispatching personnel to scene of emergency. Conducts electronic patrols of the campus by means of the department’s video surveillance cameras. Occasionally acts as a departmental representative or liaison to internal and external groups. Performs other job-related duties assigned.

Education

High school diploma or general equivalency education.

Required Licensing/Certification

Must be able to operate a motor vehicle and possess a valid driver’s license.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Must have ability to use personal computers sufficient to perform of job duties.

Work Experience

No prior experience required. Will be trained to specifics of the job.

Leadership/Supervisory Responsibilities

No supervisory responsibility for employees or students.

Work Complexity/Budget Authority

Tasks are highly interrelated and simple. Work consists of fairly standard procedures and tasks. May include a high percentage of manual duties. No responsibility for budget, revenues and/or expenditure authority.

Independent Judgment/Decision Making/Problem Solving Skills

Performs tasks and duties under general supervision, using established procedures and some innovation. Chooses from limited alternatives to resolve problems. Occasional independent judgment is required to complete work assignments. Often makes recommendations to work procedures, policies and practices. Refers unusual problems to supervisor.

Personal/Organizational Contacts

Some contact with others, including students, general public, visitors and University personnel. Purpose of contacts is to provide or obtain explanation or additional information.

Customer Service Relationships

Requires normal courteous interaction and basic interpersonal skills and tact to communicate with others. Forwards complaints or non-routine inquiries or requests to someone else to handle.

Working/Environmental Conditions

Working conditions involves some exposure to risk of accident and require following basic safety precautions. Physical demands include moderate physical activity that includes prolonged standing and/or walking, handling moderate weight objects and/or using or carrying equipment.
